Ah yes, the dogs. My two furry older children that occupied my world before Walter. Throughout my pregnancy, I wondered how Sydney and River would react to a little baby. They've been around small children (briefly) before, but never around a newborn. I wasn't worried, so much as curious. And a little apprehensive about making sure the dogs still felt loved and wanted (hey, I'm a dog person. I care about these things).

I've heard that some new moms experience "mom guilt" after they have kids. The feeling being that they cannot get accomplished all the things they wish they could do as a mom. They can't possibly keep the house sparkling clean, cook dinner, watch the kids, and run errands all at once (and of course being perfectly made-up and well-groomed). There are only so many hours in the day.

The hubs is down in Orlando on a business trip, giving a presentation to executives and designers in the high-end kitchen and bath industry. His presentation is tomorrow morning, but he left yesterday to get down there to prepare. I miss him terribly! Fortunately I have the dogs to watch out over [...]

As many of you know, we adopted Sydney in September 2006 when she was just about 10 weeks old. She weighed 16 pounds and was such a curious and inquisitive little pup. We adopted her after spending a weekend volunteering at an adopt-a-thon with the Franklin County Humane Society at a PetSmart in Wake Forest. Sydney was one of seven new pups on display and up for adoption that weekend. Her mom, a Labrador Retriever was found pregnant and alone, wandering in Franklin County one day. The animal shelter picked her up and she was scheduled to be put down, until a kind soul with the FCHS rescued Sydney's mom. A week later she delivered a litter of seven dark brown and black puppies.

Of course we do not know River's actual birthday, or even exactly how old she is, but she has become a dear member of our family and we can't picture our lives without her.
