Walter and the BOB

Posted by Melanie on Oct 8, 2009 in Blog

Today we ventured outside as a family to take our first walk together.  The weather was cool and the sun was finally out after several days of rain.  The nurses at the hospital said that fresh air is good for Walter.  So, we decided to take a short walk with the dogs.  The dogs were [...]

To say that [...]

Mom Guilt

Posted by Melanie on Sep 13, 2009 in Blog

I’ve heard that some new moms experience “mom guilt” after they have kids. The feeling being that they cannot get accomplished all the things they wish they could do as a mom. They can’t possibly keep the house sparkling clean, cook dinner, watch the kids, and run errands all at once (and of course being perfectly made-up and well-groomed). There are only so many hours in the day.

“Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundations of America.  These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.  America was targeted for attack because we are the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world.  And no on [...]

What A Long, Strange Trip It Has Been

Posted by Melanie on Sep 5, 2009 in Blog

As I move along the weeks of pregnancy (35 weeks this past Friday), I can’t help but look back at the long, strange trip it has been.  The baby will be here in approximately 5 weeks.  Looking forward to the weeks ahead is thrilling, like the feeling of anticipation you have before a long awaited [...]

Baby Shower

Posted by Melanie on Sep 2, 2009 in Blog

This past Saturday, my wonderful new sister-in-law and my brother hosted our first baby shower at my parent’s house in Winston-Salem.  I grew up in Winston, and it was nice to have an occasion to gather friends and family together.  In attendance were long time friends of the family and family members.  The hubs and [...]

34 weeks

Posted by Melanie on Aug 28, 2009 in Blog

We have approximately six weeks left to go before the arrival of baby.  The baby is now about the weight of a cantaloupe and is approximately 18 inches long.  No wonder my belly seems huge!  About mid-July I felt that the baby had a growth spert, and I feel that he is in the middle [...]

Because It’s Ladies Night

Posted by Melanie on Aug 25, 2009 in Blog

…Oh, what a night!
The hubs is down in Orlando on a business trip, giving a presentation to executives and designers in the high-end kitchen and bath industry.  His presentation is tomorrow morning, but he left yesterday to get down there to prepare.  I miss him terribly!  Fortunately I have the dogs to watch out over [...]

A Message To Michael Vick

Posted by Melanie on Aug 17, 2009 in Blog

Michael Vick, former NFL player for the Atlanta Falcons, spent 18 months in jail for running an illegal dog fighting ring in Surry County, Virginia. He has been out of prison for about six months now, with NFL Commissioner Robert Goodell reinstating Vick to play in the NFL with conditions back in late July. This past week, the Philadelphia Eagles signed Vick to join the team. He begins working out with the team this summer.

32 Weeks

Posted by Melanie on Aug 15, 2009 in Blog

The past couple of weeks have been pretty eventful. My brother’s wedding was last weekend in Wilmington, NC. He married a wonderful girl and we all had a lot of fun visiting with family and celebrating the happy couple. The hubs and I also finished up our Preparing for Childbirth classes at the hospital. It was a five week course that went over preparing for labor and delivery and caring for a new born. It was very helpful and I learned a lot (I just hope I remember everything when the baby comes)!
