Walter is six weeks old today, and it’s hard to believe how much our lives have changed in just these short weeks. At times it seems that these six weeks have flown by. Walter has gotten bigger, he’s more alert and active during the day. Other times, it seems like six years since his birth day.

Last night Mommy and Dad gave me a bath! This is what my hair looks like after I get a bath. It sticks straight up! I don’t even have to do anything to it to make it do that! Mommy says she likes my fluffy hair and says that it smells good.

Walter is about 5 1/2 weeks old, and he is growing so fast! He’s gaining weight and height, and becoming more and more alert every day. I’ve noticed this past week that he is starting to stay up a little more during the day (with the exception of yesterday – he slept like a log most of the day) and he loves to look around. At 5 weeks old, it’s amazing how I can already start to get a sense of Walter’s personality. He can’t do much right now, but what I can see about him is so fun to discover! So, what does Walter like?

Yesterday Walter had his one-month check-up at the pediatrician. We were anxious to see how much he weighed, and even took a bet before he hit the scale. I guessed 10 lbs. 9 oz. and Jason guessed 10 lbs. 5 oz. Well, the little man exceeded both our expectations…
Marketing companies are genius, and quite efficient I must add. Since bringing home Walter almost four weeks ago, our mail volume has increased dramatically with catalogues for Toys-R-Us, Babies-R-Us, Lands’ End Kid, LL Bean Kid, The Land of Nod, Pottery Barn Kids, and other direct mail pieces from companies I have never even heard of. Suddenly it seems that now we are parents, we have unlimited time and resources to shop for all things baby! While most of these catalogues get a quick glance right now and then find their way in the trash, I took a moment today to peruse the Toys-R-Us catalogue we received yesterday.
In the many hours that we stay at our little Walter, we wonder if he is bored. Granted he is only three weeks old, and can’t really focus on anything for too long, but we wonder whether or not he is being stimulated enough already. This led us to purchase some Baby Einstein DVDs yesterday. [...]
Walter is now 2 1/2 weeks old, and he is doing great! We had our second doctor’s appointment this past Tuesday and he had gained 8 oz. He is now up to 9 lbs., 8 1/2 oz – his highest weight yet! This week he seems to be in a growth spurt, as he wants [...]
Ah yes, the dogs. My two furry older children that occupied my world before Walter. Throughout my pregnancy, I wondered how Sydney and River would react to a little baby. They’ve been around small children (briefly) before, but never around a newborn. I wasn’t worried, so much as curious. And a little apprehensive about making sure the dogs still felt loved and wanted (hey, I’m a dog person. I care about these things).
Little Walter has officially been home with us one week. It has been an wonderful, interesting and challenging week as we all settle into a new routine and become bonded together as a family. How is Walter doing? He is great!
