Two Month Check-Up
This past week, Walter had his two month check-up at the pediatrician. And this check-up included his first round of shots – yikes! Walter was in a terrific mood at the doctor’s office. He was very wiggly and squirmy and smiled a lot. That is until he got his shots! But before he was stuck with the needle, the nurse measured and weighed him. Walter came in at 23 inches long and 13 lbs. 8 oz – a great size (and all the while being exclusively breastfed)! The pediatrician came in and did his usual exam: checked his heart, lungs, organs, legs, his private area (yikes! ), and took a peak at his eyes and in his ears. Everything checked out OK.
Then the nurse came back in with the shots. Walter got one oral vaccination and three shots in the leg. And he was a trooper! He only cried for about 10 seconds, and once I picked him up he was fine and back to smiling and being wiggly. The doctor told us just to watch for extra spit-up, diarrhea and a fever. He never got a fever, and I didn’t notice an increase in spit-up (he did have a couple yukky diapers the next day or two however). He did take a long nap that afternoon, probably a little groggy from the shots.
Our next appointment will be a four month check-up in early February. He’ll also get another round of shots and based on this past visit, I’m sure he’ll handle them very well. The pediatrician said we’d also examine him to see if we can start giving him a little bit of single ingredient foods, starting first with a little bit of rice cereal. So, unless Walter gets sick between now and February, we’re going to cruise right along and watch our little man get bigger and stronger every day!
