Because It’s Ladies Night
…Oh, what a night!
The hubs is down in Orlando on a business trip, giving a presentation to executives and designers in the high-end kitchen and bath industry. His presentation is tomorrow morning, but he left yesterday to get down there to prepare. I miss him terribly! Fortunately I have the dogs to watch out over me, and for us – well, it’s ladies night!
In preparation for our first ladies night last night, I ran to the grocery store at lunch and bought a few snacks, including Milkbones for the dogs. We haven’t had Milkbones on hand for awhile now (trying to monitor their weight) but I figured if mom can eat ice cream, then the dogs can eat Milkbones for ladies night! I also rented Hannah Montana the Movie. That’s right – Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus in all their Disney glory. Though I am familiar with the phenomenon that is Hannah Montana, I secretly admit that I kind of like Miley Cyrus. I like a lot of her songs, she seems to come from a wholesome family (despite being in Hollywood) and she’s not getting out of limousines sans underwear or hanging out with coke heads at Hollywood night clubs or dating other girls (we’ll see in a couple years – didn’t at one point Britney Spears seems cute and clean cut in her early days?).
But I digress.
Last night after making dinner, the girls and I ate our Milkbones and ice cream, respectively, and watched our girl movie. It was fun – and weird all at the same time. I use to do this ALL the time when I was single – usually Friday nights were my “girl” movie night, and that usually included take-out sushi and ice cream. But it’s weird to be without the hubs now. It’s so…quiet. Not that the hubs is loud, but it’s just the fact that there is not another person in the house. And the dogs are acting a little strange too. Last night Sydney laid on the bed upstairs in the guestroom and stared out the window for a good hour and a half. River napped beside me on the couch (which she doesn’t really do). It was very sweet, but reminded me how much I missed my husband and just how weird it was to be without him!
Fortunately, he gets back tomorrow evening, and things can go back to normal. And while I certainly have enjoyed my ladies nights with the dogs, I definitely prefer the family nights that we have EVERY night.
