Work Trip and 25 Week Update
This past week I traveled out of town for work to the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. Now, I know what you are thinking…
Melanie gets to go to a lot of nice places for work. A couple months ago it was The Homestead in Virginia and now the the Grove Park Inn in Asheville? Not a bad work gig…
And you’re right. I have the opportunity to travel to some very nice places for work, and I certainly do not take that for granted. Fortunately, my husband was able to come with me to the Grove Park Inn (and drive me up there) so that definitely made the four-day work trip a lot more fun.
This past Friday at the Grove Park, we celebrated 25 weeks of pregnancy! Being clustered around so many work people, I found that my belly is now a conversation starter! It’s clear I’m pregnant, so I have a lot of people (mostly women) come up to me and ask when I’m due and how everything is going. It’s fun to talk with people, and of course I always get their personal stories too (which can be interesting and fun). Men are a little more hesitant to say something about my belly, but I do catch them looking at my stomach (at least I hope that the only thing they are looking at is my stomach).
During my down time at the Grove Park, the hubs and I watched a couple of movies via a local Redbox, grabbed a couple meals around Asheville and I even participated in the 5K Legal Run-Around Race Saturday morning. I felt good walking the 3.1 miles, and only felt slightly discouraged when another pregnant woman passed me on the race. Oh well. I’m planning to keep walking as far into the pregnancy as I can, until the doctor (or my body) says otherwise.
On the way home from Asheville on Saturday evening, we stopped in Winston-Salem to see the parental units (Winston is exactly half way between Asheville and Cary so it made for a good stop). Mom and Dad grilled burgers and we had a nice visit to break up the trip home. We got home late, but it was a nice way to end the trip.
I have today off from work as a comp day for traveling on Saturday, and then I am off for Thursday and Friday for the July 4th holiday. I’m looking forward to a short week, considering that I have to save all of my vacation days for maternity leave. Tomorrow I have a doctor’s appointment where they will administer the glucose test to check for gestational diabetes. Hopefully I’ll pass that, but it will be a long appointment as I have to sit for an hour after drinking a sugar drink concoction (yuk).
I’ll keep you posted on the test results!
