24 Weeks

Today I am 24 weeks!  Our baby is about the size of an ear of corn.  What is more astounding is that my uterus is about the size of a soccer ball!  Sometimes I look down at my belly and wonder where all of that is.  I mean, my belly is certainly big, but I know how big a soccer ball is too!

The baby is still active and kicking (he’s kicking right now in fact).  He still seems to be most active in the afternoon and at night.  He is quiet when I walk the dogs in the morning and before lunch time.  It’s weird to feel him moving around in there, but also very comforting to know he is active and seems to be doing well.

I’m feeling pretty well myself.  I get pretty tired at night, and I do have some trouble sleeping.  I have to sleep on my side, and after a few hours my hips and shoulder hurt so I have to roll over to the other side.  And then after a few hours I have to roll over because the other side of my hips and other shoulder hurt.  And the cycle continues all night.  But, considering I haven’t slept through the night in about two months, I’m doing pretty darn well!

We have our next doctor’s appointment at the end of the month and then we start our “Preparing for Childbirth” classes the second week of July.  These classes are through Rex Hospital in Raleigh (where I will deliver the baby) and are once a week for eight weeks.  We also signed up for a Child Car Safety class, Labor Support class and (for me and baby only) a Moms in Motion exercise class that starts six weeks after I have the baby.

So, we have a lot to look forward to, even before the baby arrives!  Stay tuned!
