22 Weeks and Kickin’
Today marks 22 weeks and we have some exciting announcements!
First, we learned last week that we are having a little boy! The husband and I had kind of hoped we would have a boy first, but of course in the end all we wanted was a healthy baby. At our doctor’s appointment last week, we had our second ultrasound. The technician scoped around and pointed out different parts of the baby’s anatomy – the head, brain, spinal cord, ribs, arms, legs, kidneys, heart and yes…the “boy parts” as they were termed (and it was pretty darn obvious that those parts were boy). In a weird way for both the husband and I, learning the sex of the baby made the pregnancy and the baby all the more real. Now, we know his name (which will remain a secret until the delivery). We know how we will decorate the nursey and we know what to register for. It’s wonderful and overwhelming all at the same time.
Our second exciting news is that I felt the baby kick last night! For the past few weeks, I thought maybe that he was kicking around in there, but I wasn’t sure if it was the baby or a case of too much ice cream after dinner. But last night as I was watching So You Think You Can Dance, I definitely felt the little one give a good nudge. The husband was able to feel the baby too, which was very exciting! Perhaps the baby was kicking around because of the show I was watching. After all, the baby does have half of my genes and my side of the family likes to throw down at weddings. Whatever the reason, we were thrilled to actually feel the little one moving around. Every day it is becoming more real to us that we are going to be a mom and dad in four months!
We now have about 18 weeks left before the baby arrives. Right now, the baby weighs about one pound and is the length of a spaghetti squash. We still have a long way to go, but we are excited about the rest of the journey and can’t wait for the arrival of our first son!

Nothing like feeling that first kick. Sounds like you already have quite an active son in there. Bet he’s getting ready to keep up with Sydney.
