19 weeks
Every Friday is a small milestone during my pregnancy. The husband and I are one week closer to becoming more than just parents of two dogs. Yesterday I was 19 weeks. Next week I’ll be 20 weeks along which officially marks the half way point in pregnancy (doctors assign the baby’s due date 40 weeks after conception). According to the baby and parenting website BabyCenter.com, our baby is the size of an heirloom tomato (whatever that is). Out baby is about 5 inches long. It is still too small to weigh in pounds (just ounces) and the baby is starting to sprout hair on top of it’s little head. Every week brings a new development, and it’s simply amazing to think that this is taking place in my body.
And speaking of body, I’m starting to show and I think I finally look pregnant (before I just looked like I had spent too much time at the Golden Corral). I’m kind of starting to waddle like a pregnant woman, and I definitely get winded sometimes going up the stairs. I estimate that I’ve gained about 13 pounds so far. It’s a weird sensation to watch the scale go up and up and up (when for so many years I have just wanted it to go down and down and down). My hair and nails are looking pretty good however, so that is definitely a plus!
It’s getting harder for my to sleep. I find myself waking up a lot at night to turn from one side to the next (I have to sleep on my side now. Yuk. I’m a stomach sleeper, which of course is out for the next 5 months). I haven’t really noticed weird food cravings, but fruit, cereal and smoothies taste extra good to me right now! Unfortunately the doctor said that I should not eat ice cream because it “makes for big babies.” Sadness. We stopped buying ice cream for the house, but every once in awhile the husband will let me eat an ice cream cone
So there you have it – a 19 week review. Now that I’m at the half way point, I want to try and write at least one weekly post updating my progress with baby. I’m sure there will be many more fun and exciting tales to share as the weeks go along.

It was great to see you & J. a few hours ago in Raleigh. Half way there and you look absolutely glowing. Ah, the special look of woman with child – beautiful.
Let’s recount – since The Announcement and the picture of the sonogram, we’ve seen:
a scary picture of Charlton Heston,
a picture of a hotel,
a baby stroller, and Angelina.
WHERE ARE THE PICTURES OF YOU!?!?! You don’t get to be 19 weeks pregnant very often. And for those of us far away – we want to see progress!! Come on – put on your best preggie shirt and snap that photo.
