Hello again,

I finally have a domain name and a hosting service, but I have no idea how to get the current blog page that is on Mobile to move. I am trying to follow the directions from Mobile Me, but they seem different from what is on the hosting website. Is there a time that I could call you and would you be willing to walk me through it so I don't mess something up? Let me know: imdowntown@hotmail.com

Jane,

I use GoDaddy for my domain names too... just make sure you keep your information current with your account. Do a search on Google (or Fatwallet) for "godaddy coupon" and you can usually save a couple bucks on your domain name.

As for Wordpress, there's are links at the bottom of Wordpress.com for "Free Features" and "Premium Features" but I think you have to sign-up before you can see pricing and whatnot.

Good luck. Of course you can ask us if you have any questions, but you'll be surprised how much you can do when you just play around with it a bit. Under most circumstances, you won't break anything, so don't be afraid to try. There are great resources all over the internet, and this stuff is much easier than it used to be.

Thanks for the great help! I did contact Mobile Me support - they are fantastic as all of the Apple support folks are! I have been looking at Go Daddy for a domain name. I've yet to check out how much they charge to host, but some names are very cheap. What do you think? I checked out Word Press - I really want my own domain name - but I couldn't find a direct link for their premium service. I did find one for their top notch hosting service, but there is a tier below that. I'll keep you posted. I don't know if I can figure this one out of my own or not!

Jane,

Contact Mobile Me Support. I have used Mac's forever and have a Mobile Me account, their support is second to none, and while I've never called to change my user name, I'm sure they can help you. You might also want to check out the forums on Apple's website. Search for your answer there (someone may have already asked it) and if you don't find it, ask. To get to the forums go to apple.com, click on the "support" tab at the top, then choose "community". The Mobile Me forum is the first listing under the heading "Digital Life".

Even if you can't change your user name, I believe Mobile Me allows you to have your own domain name. You should be able to use that to hide your user name when going to your blog (i.e. myblog.com instead of janesite.me.com). But again, you'll have to contact Apple or the forums for help because this is beyond what I use Me for.

HI Melanie,

All of this is new and somewhat complicated to me. I started a new blog page through iWeb, and have it published through my mobile me account. The problem, however, is that I set up Mobile Me using my real name and I'm not too sure I want my real name connected with it - not that any of my posts are inappropriate. It appears that I can't change my mobile me user ID either, without having to buy another count through Mobile Me. That appears to be one of the few drawbacks in using a Mac!

Jane, let me just update a bit. There are two options with a Wordpress blog.

1. You can get your own domain name and hosting service and install the Wordpress software on your server to host your own blog/website. This is the method employed for Melanie's site as well as my own. This is not very difficult, even for a novice. Many hosting companies employ easy installation options for common software such as Wordpress.

2. You can get a site at wordpress.com (i.e. janesite.wordpress.com) and Wordpress will host your website for you. Wordpress offers a basic service for free or you can pay for premium features.

There are pros and cons to both. But I prefer sites have their own domains names which are portable, so if Melanie decides to utilize a different software program or otherwise expand ACoffeeToGo.com in the future, she won't have to get a new web address. She'll always have her domain whether the backend software is running Wordpress or something completely different.

Hey Jane - This template was free but my husband pays for hosting on Wordpress under his company name, FavoriteU, LLC. He pays a fee to host all of his websites. We use Spry, and Jason said that he recommends DreamHost for one or a few websites.

Jason was able to transfer all of my posts from my old site on Blogger - there is an import option in Wordpress that connects to Blogger. It will import all of your previous posts, as well as the comments.

Melanie -- If you don't mind me asking, are you guys paying a hosting fee to wordpress? I just discovered iweb on my Mac and am debating on at least transferring mine over to Mobile Me. Also, were you able to transfer your posts from blogger, or did you have to enter and/or cut-paste each one?

Thanks,
